The full height of The George and Vulture on a bright day

Since 1870

Our story

A corner house with a long memory, a short walk from Hoxton Square.

The tallest pub in London

Many Hoxton pubs can tell a tall tale, but this one’s quite true. The George & Vulture has stood as the tallest pub in London since 1870. The gable still carries the name above Pitfield Street, and the ground floor still does what a pub is for.

With a penchant for tradition and an eye for progression, we pride ourselves on the quality of this humble Hoxton establishment. The East End around us has changed its face more than once. We have kept the things we are sure about: sourdough pizza and craft beer.

Grandeur runs through our veins like the beer from our taps.

Inside: dark Anaglypta, a long bar, a penny-farthing, a suit of armour that has never ordered a pint, and pavement tables for when London remembers the sun. Dogs are part of the furniture on the benches out front. Our sister house, The Stonemasons Arms, pours in the same family spirit.

The pizza that earned the wall

The pies come from our friends at Sodo. The oven has been noticed beyond Hoxton.

Sustainability Champion

The George & Vulture has been named a Sustainability Champion by the British Institute of Innkeeping. It is the unglamorous work — waste, energy, sourcing — done so the pub can keep its corner for another century.
